Sin City (2005) Jeff’s Review
March 1, 2008“The night’s as hot as hell. It’s a lousy room in a lousy part of a lousy town – I’m staring at a goddess. She’s telling me she wants me. I’m not going to waste one more minute wondering how I’ve gotten this lucky. She smells like angels ought to smell, the perfect woman… the Goddess. Goldie. She says her name is Goldie.” – Marv
Yahoo! Synopsis
Welcome to Sin City. This town beckons to the tough, the corrupt, the brokenhearted, Some call it dark. Some call it hard-boiled. Then there are those who call it home. Crooked cops. Sexy Dames. Desperate vigilantes. Some are seeking revenge… others lust after redemption. And then there are those hoping for a little of both. A universe of unlikely and reluctant heroes still trying to do the right thing in a city that refuses to care.
Jeff’s Review
Movies are not supposed to be this fun. Robert Rodriguez did a masterful job with Frank Miller’s graphic novel. Rodriguez not only directed the film, but he also edited it and did all of the cinematography. And he hit a walk off, grand slam as Sin City is absolutely stunning. The comic book jumps out of the pages and onto the television screen. Several times I could not believe what I was seeing. Filmed in black and white, with color added it for effect and purpose, Miller’s novel makes an impact like few movies ever have before.
Bruce Willis as Detective Hartigan is a true Jack Bauer bad ass. He heroically saves a little girl from a perverted kidnapper. He has a large role in the movie in which he doesn’t disappoint. I am also happy to report at the wonderful job Mickey Rourke does as Marv. He’s falsely accused of killing a prostitute he has fallen in love with. These are just a couple of the stories that are told in Sin City.
If you can get past the extreme violence (gratuitous at times), you will really enjoy the film.
