Drew Lane, Drew Lane!
July 7, 2008Update - 05/13/2009 – New Drew audio!
People love Drew Lane. Every day I average about 25-50 hits just by the search term “Drew Lane.” Mike in the Mornings at WRIF is just not the same, in fact most believe the show sucks. It’s going to be at least six more months before he hear Drew again on the radio. Here is what we know so far about his new show:
- It should start around the first of the year in 2009
- Drew will be broadcasting from his home in the Detroit area
- Mr. Skin will phone in everyday via ISDN from Chicago
- This will not be a “nude women in movie show”
- Drew and Skin will do virtually the same show as the old Drew and Mike Show
- They will talk about movies, celebrities, pop culture and Detroit
- According to his latest WDFN interview, it looks as if Mr. Skin will not be teaming up with Drew. The door is still open, but Drew seems to think their schedules may not sync up.
- Drew may fill in for Wojo when he is (often) on vacation or assignment at WDFN. They joked about it, but it would be very smart choice for WDFN.
- They will most likely end up at WKRK, 97.1 FM (my guess). I say this because Drew is a sports nut. He could still do his show and have a very good mixture of popular culture and sports. This is the same formula the morning show at WKRK works with.
- If WDFN ends up switching to 106.7 FM, he could end up there as well.
- Drew is excited to get back to work and I expect he will be back on the air before the end of the year.
- Drew Lane will return to WRIF with Mike Clark on July 13, 2009… Drew and Mike are back!
I’m glad Drew is gone, The MIM show is working and it gives more air time to the people behind the scenes. Drew can take his bumm back to Chicago with Skin and compete with Steve Dahl. Good luck with THAT.
I think Drew and Skin (that’s actually a pretty good name) would do a good show together. They have a good dynamic between them. I don’t buy WKRK though, they’re a Sports talk station. The two of them could do a sports talk show but I wouldn’t think they’d want to be that constrained. If WKRK wanted that sort of show, they could’ve just kept Daminski and Doyle.
Mostly, I’m glad all the rumors are that Drew will be staying in Detroit. I think most people in SE Michigan have become fond of him. If he did take his new show off to Chicago or Phoenix or wherever else the rumors have them off to, I think it’d be a loss of a pretty talented guy.
I’m still an avid listener of MIM. I seem to be hearing a lot more of Trudi which has always been a good thing. Mike Wolters is often brutally sardonic. Especially towards those who desperately deserve it.
Best thing that could happen in my mind is Drew and Skin in the afternoon drive time so none of us have to listen to that spectacularly overrated hack, Mitch Albom. That’s my opinion anyway.
I’m so glad I found this on a google search… I’ve been so sad to have lost Drew and Mike. MIM is NOT the same and hardly tolerable.
Drew and Skin will be good, I think, and it would be GREAT if it was in the afternoon when we all seem to lag.
I agree with Matt above though, KRK is now a sports station, so I don’t think they’ll go there. But we’ll see… Good luck Drew!! Can’t wait to hear you again!!!

Since Drew left WRIF, I’ve missed him terribly. I still listen to the show and adore Mike, but it’s not the same. It’s funny, but not the same laugh out loud funny and not as insightful or intelligent. I used to talk about parts of the show when I got to work and I find I don’t do that anymore. I miss Drew’s humor and thoughts on everything from entertainment to politics. I’m so glad to hear he’s staying in Detroit. I think 97.1 might be a perfect spot for him. If you’ve noticed, after D&D left, they went to all sports, but slowly and surely, the shows have introduced other topics. I think they’ve realized that almost noone wants to hear just sports all day. I think the Drew Lane show with just 25% sports (I’d be ok with 0% sports, but I know Drew) would do great and the drive home spot would be perfect. That way, I could listen to both of them.

I had a feeling Drew would end up doing something with sports. He will be good there. I enjoyed listening to him every morning on the Drew and Mike Show. My wife and I were driving the other day and wondered what he was up to since he has been MIA forever now, so I Googled his name and found this. I am also glad he is not doing some team up with Mr. Skin because that would be lame as hell. Mr. Skin is only worth listening to for about 5 minutes every 3-6 months. That’s the limit of his entertainment value.
I am sure Drew will always be in radio. However, no matter what he does he will be a shell of his former radio personality. Whether he likes it or not, the Drew and Mike Show will ALWAYS be the biggest accomplishment in his career, and he made a mistake by leaving if he is not pepared to go into semi-retirement, which he may be. That show will always define him. I have no doubt he will find himself bouncing around from station to station until he really retires, or if he stays somewhere it will be on some insignificant show that has half the listeners as the Drew and Mike Show.
That’s not a bash on Drew, it’s just the truth. Sorry.
The truth?? Who’s truth??? YOUR’S?? Drew made the Drew and Mike show what it is…and he would have done so with anyone…Mike just caught a lucky break. When he gets back on the air, I am pretty confident that his show will have just as many listeners, if not more, as the Drew and Mike show…in fact, I would be more inclined to say more because I know a lot of people who stopped listening once he left!
I’m still holding out for a reunion of some sort or possibly the full return of Drew Lane to WRIF however the name might be changed to “Mike and Drew Show”.
This is just wild speculation on my part, but my belief is, there were days that Drew just buried his face in his hands and yelled “WHY DID I DO THAT?”. Hopefully in the future WRIF and Drew will come to some sort of an agreement since the working relationship isn’t damaged beyond repair.
Drew is very missed, the morning show is not the same without him. Where ever he ends up doesnt matter. Ill still listen to what ever show hes on, even if it means switching off the WRIF and beside that: the new guy the got Jamie seems like a douche and Doug Powdell plays shitty music(GET OUT OF THE 80′S and led Zepplen isnt that cool!. Im sick of hearin the same Format And from what i know The DOC is responsable for all that right?
I wish Drew would come back, it’s tough, since I am not educated, to keep this show insightful. Drew brought so much intelligence to the show and I just talked about thigh highs and farts. I drowning here, throw me a life line Drew.

Where are you?? You have tons of fans who miss your voice! Come back by yourself or come back with Mike. But, bottom line, just come back to Detroit radio! Any of the Detroit radio stations would be a fool to not try to hire you. You would have an instant fan base. Is anyone listening??
well, its obvious that Drew’s gambit of holding out for more money, or a better show / timeslot worked out really well for him. He is no where to be heard. LOL. What an idiot. He was riding the golden calf and he blew it for pure greed.

ond quesing ……look i can’t spell i’m blind it comes with the whole fuckin package …..but any way look the beetle’s broke up as so many great bands and entertainers its kind of how we’re wired so drew and mike show was awesome so don’t be hating …… man change sucks and so do mean people so fuck the dumb shit let time sort it out ……. but the eagles got back together and prince is back to being prince but when chemistry happens it is like the pistons coming together2004 and falling apart 2009 l ya’ll have to realize and as an entertainer,sertainly not at a drew and mike level,but man for 15+ years to try to keep it new and non complacient and not secike the red wings finding ways for 15+ years i hope for the best for drew mike and detroit ya the economic future
I’ve been listening to Drew and mike since it was Drew and Zip with Mike phoning it in….I still listen to the show without Drew, but it kinda sucks… Also Mike is sounding waaaaaaayyy to gay always saying ( in a gay voice) Ohhh my godddddddd!

Who cares? All he does is piss-n-moan all the time. The funny thing about him is, he always makes fun of bald people such as Daughtry, when Drew is actually Bald himself (hmmm… ironic). Wonder if he is still sporting the “hat” fashions trying to cover up his Bald head. The show was better with Marc. Hope this does not end up slitting the throats of the present morning crew… it probably will and I will end up tuning back to “Stern” in the mornings.
