Vice President Sarah Palin

August 29, 2008

Watch John McCain announce Sarah Palin LIVE here.

It’s 10:20am and John McCain is set to announce is vice president at a rally in Ohio in less then two hours! However, rumor has it he has picked the governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin! This will rock the United States and change this election instantly. How is Joe Biden going to feel having to attack this woman?

John McCain has shown Team Obama how a vice president should really be announced. There will be no idiotic 3am cell phone, text message proclamation.

It’s 10:20am - Fox News has official conformation! It’s Palin!

Update – 12:58 – Team Obama attacked Govenor as inexperiece. McCain aid Jill Hazelbaker was quick to respond:

“It is pretty audacious for the Obama campaign to say that Governor Palin is not qualified to be Vice President. She has a record of accomplishment that Senator Obama simply cannot match. Governor Palin has spent her time in office shaking up government in Alaska and actually achieving results — whether it’s taking on corruption, passing ethics reform or stopping wasteful spending and the ‘bridge to nowhere.’ Senator Obama has spent his time in office running for President.

  1. YES WE CAN!

  2. This is fresh air! Wow, what a surprise pick! Suck on this OBAMA!

  3. I’m a Hillary supporter who loves this pick! He has my vote now! Did you know she was a sports reporter and a beauty queen?

  4. Yes, official confirmation! It’s Palin!

  5. Oh awesome is this? We have a hockey mom for vice president! Her son is a solider too, I think!

  6. All is can say is wow!

  7. She is pretty hot.

/Hillary supporter who really likes this pick!

  8. God I love this pick! The Barry O camp is going to implode as they struggle to criticize Palin without opening themselves up to return fire! This is friggin BRILLIANT!

Just imagine Biden’s arrogant mouth as he attacks Palin……so many possiblities……

  9. We’re tired of blowhards. And with so much turnover in the Obama campaign, maybe the Republican intellectual snobs can apply for a job over there? It doesn’t take much real talent.

  10. This is amazing and historic!

  11. This would be great news for Democrats! Let’s chose the Republican governor of a state where eleven GOP representatives, including crazy Ted Stevens, are currently under indictment for corruption. Smooth move, McA-hole! Of course, the crook thing doesn’t seem to bother Alaskans (Stevens just got reelected even though he’s on trial with 5-6 federal charges against), but it’s going to look like a massive endorsement of corruption to the rest of the country if she is the VP pick.

  12. McCain has done an amazing job with the pick!

  13. Haha, you sound scared Fried Wired! I’ll take Palin over Biden any day! You are probably a guy. You have no idea what this choice will do for women like me in this country!

This is real change we can believe in!

  14. I don’t know what to say. This is shocking.

  15. someone said fresh air above me, I agree. I’m so excited about this choice, I’m freaking out!

  16. When america meets Sarah Palin, they will wall in love with her.

  17. What a beautiful family!

  18. I agree, her family is beautiful! I snagged that photo from Gateway Politics.com

  19. The maverick listened to us! Palin is a strong Pro-Life woman!

  20. I live in Alaska and I’m a democrat, but I adore governor Palin. We will miss her but she will be wonderful for the country!

  21. YEAH BABY! The liberals are going batty! Kos is comparing her to Quayle! How original!

  22. She is a very smart woman!

  23. Anyone who switches sides from Democrat to Republican just because McCain picked a woman for his VP is someone who doesn’t need to be voting. Obama and McCain are on the opposite sides of the important issues that are facing this country. Voting based purely on sex is appalling.

  24. This will do nicely. Pro-life, pro-drilling, and she’ll bring over the disaffected Pantsuits.

A woman, not a Washington insider… now there’s change you can believe in.

And keep repeating this: She has more executive experience than the Dem’s Presidential nominee.

  25. Sorry Paul, as a strong Hillary voter I was on the fence waiting for this announcement. I’ve fallen on the McCain side today! I’ve read about her all morning and she sounds like a wonderful leader! Plus a governor with executive experience!

  26. As an obama voter, i’m not scared. We will still win, but this is a pretty historic pick for mccain. the first women vice president will sure shake up the world.

  27. Back to US history class with you ObamaVoter. She will be the second woman to join a national ticket.

  28. I don’t have much time but I just want to say:

In a year when the Republican brand name is not held high, McCain’s Vice Presidential choice can show that he is not going to be a typical Republican and provide us with typical politics. His choice for Vice President can be one that demonstrates an energetic vision for the future that breaks with the old model in favor of a new model, a model more suited for the next generation, but based on the proven principles that can carry us into the future….the Reagan, Republican Principles.
Such an indication of this direction and of his being deserving of our dedication to his election can be made by simply nominating Sarah Palin for Vice President.
Sarah Palin is a woman who walks in the shadow or footsteps of no man. Her reputation comes not through marriage but from effort. Her record is one that compensates for any and all of the baggage often pinned on Republicans.
There is no legitimate argument that can oppose her record on and concern with the environment. On the issue of reform her career has been one spent bringing change to government . It has also been spent fighting corruption, be it with big oil or fellow Republicans
Sarah Palin is all that McCain needs to demonstrate the he will be different. By selecting Sarah Palin, McCain will have at his side a person whom can convincingly argue the fact that our great nation has the resources we need to provide energy without being held hostage to the middle east.
With Palin at his side McCain can show that although he may look old, his thinking is fresh.
By choosing Sarah Palin as his running mate, John McCain will have a Vice President who believes that free markets are the best markets and that taxes are a burden that need to be eased, not imposed as solutions.
In choosing this young Governor, John McCain will be showing me and the world that he has the experience of the past as well as foresight for the future. Foresight that will allow our nation to fall into the hands of a new generation that is capable of taking the lessons from our past and applying them to the conservative solutions for our future.
There are many people who are capable of being good choices for McCain and our nation. Men like Romney, Huckabee, Haley Barbour and John Thune. Or women like Condoleeza Rice, Kaye Bailey Hutchinson or Carly Fiorina but no one, no one, can provide the injection of confidence, energy, enthusiasm and gravitas that McCain needs for this particular election as much as Sara Palin.
With Palin as his choiceMcCain demonstrates that he has judgment worthy of not just my support but my time, money and energy, all of which my country is more than worthy of but I wait to see if John McCain is.
Governor Palin is the one figure who can be brought into this presidential race who can bring back the sense of hope and enthusiasm that I felt for Reagan. By choosing the Reagan-like Sara Palin McCain will prove to me that his thinking is in fact worthy of all my dedication to his candidacy .

  29. Good job McCain.

  30. Wow, she speaks about as well as Bush. It’s nucular huh? Wow. Impressive. I wonder what kind of experience she has that qualifies her. Governor, 2 years. Mayor of town the size of my the apartment complex down the road from me. Hmm that should do it. LOL Good luck now McCain, I was really up in the air, but I guess I have no choice now. Obama it is. And I know thousands of Americans will agree after seeing that weak speech.

  31. Okay, you can have the thousand americans voting for Obama. And we’ll be with the millions of americans voting for McCain and Palin!

  32. I don’t think it’s a stretch to say conservatives/Republicans are far more excited about Palin than they were for McCain. I hope good things come from this. I have strong hopes for not only this election but maybe, just maybe in 2012. Again, we’ll just have to see what happens. I recall being fairly excited for Condi Rice in the past but later being thoroughly disappointed with her.

  33. Me and my wife are very pleased with this pick. My wife has a picture of herself, published in a local news paper, at seven-years-old, holding a “Go Ferraro” sign. (Parents are nutty libs)

She’s glad now that she supports a woman she actually agrees politically with. This is a great pick!

BTW, me and my daughter just watch Palin’s Ohio speech. Its a good day. Brilliant!

  34. She’s smart, accomplished, and inspiring. What a great pick.

  35. Why is it all you Pro-Lifers support the unborn baby until said child says commits murder and then you scream for the death penalty. I could have made a better VP choice by picking my nose!

  36. Since taking office, Palin herself has become the subject of a legislative probe involving a personnel case. Good choice John, she’s almost as slimy as you!

  37. Because the unborn baby is innocent. The convicted murderer is guilty.

    Not that difficult.

  38. “Haha, you sound scared Fried Wired! I’ll take Palin over Biden any day! You are probably a guy. You have no idea what this choice will do for women like me in this country!

This is real change we can believe in!”

Yup. I can confirm I probably am a man. But scared? You kidding me? An unknown newbie governor from America’s least populous state with zero experience is a f***ing gift! Plus, you guys seem to be overlooking the fact that your conservative candidate is actually reshaping his campaign to resemble Hillary’s. It’s now a knock-off of an opposition campaign that didn’t even work centered around scooping up Clinton’s sloppy seconds voters. What does that tell you? Once the hacks on the McNews networks get going with this angle, it’ll be even more over for McPresidentasaurus. Scared? Nope, freakin’ elated more like.

  39. “Wow, she speaks about as well as Bush. It’s nucular huh?”

“Good luck now McCain, I was really up in the air, but I guess I have no choice now. Obama it is. And I know thousands of Americans will agree after seeing that weak speech.”

First of all, it’s called having an accent. Second, President Jimmy Carter introduced “nucular” to the national vocabulary decades before GW Bush became president. Third, what charity is there in criticizing someone for the way they pronounce certain words? Lastly, I’ll take an inarticulate speaker whose words carry substance any day over an eloquent speaker who speaks in vague terms and generalities.

  40. I have news for you jimmy, she speaks just as good as Obama or any of the rest thats in this election! And I think she has much more experience than Obama on how to run a country as president! She already is Commander in Chief of the NG of Alaska, Runs the largest State in the United States and knows alot about oil! This lady will make history when she is elected VP in Nov!

  41. McCain has lost his mind if he thinks this inexperienced trophy VP is ready to be vice-president. It reminds me of J. howard Marshall and Anne Nicole Smith.

And those of you who think the liberals are scared of this pick? They are too busy laughing.

  42. goodtimepolitics,

I’m with you. Sarah is a great speaker and definitely does have more executive experience than Obama. The inarticulate speaker I was referring to is GW Bush. It’s not often pretty when he speaks, but at least it’s not empty rhetoric. Sorry for the confusion.

  43. BTW- looking back at all the comments, I am left wondering, what is the average IQ is among republiKKKans? 70? 75?

Gotta love the stupid women above who will vote for McCain knowing he will do nothing to equalize pay differences just because he picked a puppet for VP.

Have fun making 76 cents for every dollar I make you stupid bitches.

Oh wait, that’s assuming any of us have a job when McBush sends every manufacturing job overseas.

And they guys who said they were former Hillary supporters? Cuckolds. They will vote for any ticket if it has a woman on it.

  44. McCain is an idiot. He has just thrown his entire argument that the reason to vote for him is because Obama is not experienced enough to be commander-in-chief. A 72 year old man who has had 4 bouts w/cancer just found it wise to put a 2 year governor of a state with less people than my civic association has. He has two choices. He can say he was wrong and that Obama is qualified or he can say Palin is not. The American people are not that stupid. It has to be both. Executive experience? Obama has been involved in foreign policy at the congressional levelalbeit briefly whereas Palin has ZERO involvement. This is a desperate move by a man who has yet to tell me (an independent) why I SHOULD vote for HIM (not why I should not vote for Obama). I will pay attention to the RNC hoping to hear substance but if this is about pro-life, pro-gun, and family values he can shit in his hat. He has cheated on his wife and helped Bush lie to the American people and commit “war crimes” against the people of a country that di not attack us. Meanwhile, Afganistan fell off the radar. Even Bush has agreed to a timeline wheras McCain wants to stay. MORON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  45. Hey goodtimespolitics, It is speak WELL not GOOD and any of the rest thats in this election is a phrase that violates numerous rules of the english language. No offense but maybe you are not the best judge on how well the candidates speak.

  46. Brilliant choice! Maybe Obama should have thought twice about putting a woman on his ballot too.

  47. All you Hillary supporters throwing in simply because Palin’s another chick do your entire gender a disservice. He believed he could gain your support just by choosing someone in a skirt, and you’ve basically proven that ideas and politics don’t matter to you nearly so much as fashion.

This pick is a desperate gamble by a scared candidate, and what’s worse, McCain is old enough that the vice president becomes a serious matter. If McCain really believes she’d be easily able to take over were he incapacitated, based solely on the fact that she was governor for less than two years of a state whose population is less than that of Brooklyn, proves precisely how poor his judgment actually is.

  48. Does Obama have the experience necessary to be President? He doesn’t think so and said as much when he was elected in 2004.

  49. @Jeff: and 2008 is four years later, is it not? So I guess he feels he has the experience necessary now. It’s worth noting he never made an issue of experience; only McCain did, and McCain’s the person who chose the running mate younger and less experienced than anyone.

  50. Jeez, Jeff, you might think the crack about Alaska’s 3 electoral votes was not funny (probably because it wasn’t meant as a joke), but you’re hilarious.

“Does Obama have the experience necessary to be President? He doesn’t think so and said as much when he was elected in 2004.”

That truly is comedy! Hmm… how about “My doctor doesn’t have the experience necessary to be a doctor. He doesn’t think so and said as much four years before he graduated med school.”

  51. Jill Hazelbaker said it best:

“It is pretty audacious for the Obama campaign to say that Governor Palin is not qualified to be Vice President. She has a record of accomplishment that Senator Obama simply cannot match. Governor Palin has spent her time in office shaking up government in Alaska and actually achieving results — whether it’s taking on corruption, passing ethics reform or stopping wasteful spending and the ‘bridge to nowhere.’ Senator Obama has spent his time in office running for President.‘

Our vice president candidate has more executive experience then your presidential candidate. Ouch.

  52. Fried Wire did you even listen to what Obama said? HIS case was he should not run in 2008 because he would not have enough experience. You act as if he said it 15 years ago and now he has the experience necessary.

He was talking about this very election. He was right then and he is right now.

  53. Oh my God! Barack Obama does not possess powers to foretell the future! He is a mortal! He changes his mind and reassesses his opinions in relation to prevailing circumstances, other people’s advice and all that kind of gay stuff! Oh my God, Obama is a bad choice. Let’s vote instead for a neoconservative, big government fascist with face cancer and a pinhead from Alaska with zero experience who thinks women should be forced to bear the children of rapists and quit complaining about earning less money than men. Let’s vote instead for a barely functioning egomaniac with anger issues and more flipflops than the entrance hall of a Malaysian mosque. Really, you want this crap? Evidently you relish the thought of American influence in the world dwindling to zero, of more unemployment, of paying more taxes, of your standard of living sinking further south, of your kids getting called up for more fucking stupid pointless wars that do nothing but further impoverish this nation and enrich the parasites who’ve scrambled to the top of the economic tree thanks to political favors and corporate welfare. You like?

  54. The choice of Palin as a running mate is a terrible insult to American women. I am embarassed for McCain. He could barely look at her during her speech. Sad.

  55. Dear Governor and Vice President Palin: I hope you continue to keep going. I knew that this would happen because of the fear that you put in Washington. You are not one of the insiders and many will find that you will not stand for all of the inappropriate behavior that goes on there. So keep fighting. We are women and we have to do that to make ourselves known. God Bless America.
