Reasons to love Sarah Palin

September 1, 2008

Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska has rejuvenated the republican race to the white house. Here is a substantial list as to why Americans should love and support Gov. Sarah Palin. I’ll add more as the list grows.

  1. She walks to work and is  genuine. Watch this video/interview of her and you’ll be convinced. I promise you.
  2. She’s an expert in the oil industry. This is critical right now as Americans push for more drilling and new approaches to energy independence. She was appointed to serve on the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission as the chairwoman.
  3. She’s not above criticizing her own party.  She resigned from the Oil and Gas Conservation Commission to protest what she called the “lack of ethics” of fellow Republican members.
  4. She wants to drill in Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR)! As governor of Alaska she knows first hand the many benefits of drilling in this area.
  5. She has not fallen for the myth of man made global warming.
  6. She’s fair to all sides of debates. She believes creationism should be taught in schools along with the theory of evolution.
  7. She is pro-life. She believes a baby should be protected from conception to natural death.
  8. She is fiscally responsible. Just after she became governor, she canceled the “Bridge to No Where.” Then she got rid of the state owned jet as she promised to do in her campaign. It sold on eBay for over two million dollars.
  9. She cut taxes for small business owners.
  10. She supports the second amendment and the right for Americans to protect themselves with fire arms.
  11. She supports Israel and even has a mini flag in her office!

  1. Sign me up, I’m in love. It’s the glasses more then the policy.

  2. She’s all win for me.

  3. If she indeed walks to work that is great. Sadly, that may be the best thing going for her.

  4. If it was OBAMA’s who had a knocked up 17 year old, the right wing Republicans would be damning him to hell. What kind of crap is this??

  5. Barack Obama is 47 years old after all. Does that make a difference to you?

  6. “Barack Obama is 47 years old after all. Does that make a difference to you?”
    No, not really.

What makes a difference is a woman who is supposed to be so pro-family, pro-America and Pro-Values. And she clearly isn’t.

Her daughter is now the poster girl for teen preganacy–and what happens when they ban sex ed in school. Palin chose to accept the VP nom with this situation in her family–she deserves to deal with any and all the questions and press that comes her way about it. I am sure there are other skeletons, too.

  7. Shocking that a liberal would attack a 17 year old girl, rather then the issue. You are disgusting and everyone like you should be ashamed of yourself.

  8. I am actually proud. And I was attacking the girl’s mother. She chose to risk having her her family’s matters exposed, now she has to take it.

And believe me, if the tables were turned and it was Obama’s camp that had a pregnancy scandal, the right wing would be all over it in the most negative ways possible.

  9. People who spit on traditional American values have SUCH a hard time understanding people who respect them.

I see this again and again. In this case, folks don’t understand why traditionalists, who’re against unwed sex, aren’t disowning Sarah Palin because her daughter had unwed sex!

Here’s the secret to the riddle, folks: There is one kind of sin which boasts of its evil and spits on goodness. And there is another kind of sin which honors goodness, even in the breach. And the difference between the two is called “repentance and responsibility.”

A leftist libertine would say: There’s nothing wrong with unwed sex; have ten partners, four at a time, any gender you like; just use condoms. This is sin, and it is unrepentant, and it spits on goodness. Jamie Lynn Spears, and her sister, and other such pampered sex poodles, exhibit this libertine tendency. Hence the frowns of traditionalists.

Meanwhile, a kid who doesn’t spit on goodness can still get torqued up (remember what those teen hormones were like, folks?) and sleep with her boyfriend and end up pregnant: But what she does next is the key. Does she acknowledge the error, or try to hide or escape it? Does she act like an adult and take responsibility, even if the road is hard, or shirk responsibility?

Bristol did the right thing. In so doing she affirmed the nobility of traditional values. She made a mistake; she repented of it; now she is doing the right thing. It is a story of human frailty, followed by nobility.

The alternative (abortion, keeping it quiet) would have been the real scandal. For of course that would have been compounding the evil to flee responsibility for it.

Every single Christian in the world has a story in their backgrounds like this — not always involving a pregnancy, perhaps, but always a failure of morals. But the returning to the light, the gracious forgiveness which follows repentance: That is what the human story is all about. It is what God’s love is all about.

Which is why Christians (and others who respect traditional Judeo-Christian morality) are so energized by Palin and her family. In their enthusiasms, they are so much like normal people. And in their failures, they are not only like normal people…but like the best that is in all people: The re-enacting, once again, of that pattern called “redemption.”

Still don’t get it? Then I can’t help you, except to suggest that you befriend a family who loves Jesus and share their meals for a year. Understanding will follow.

  10. Governor Sarah Palin may care about the unborn fetus but she doesn’t care about the innocent animals of Alaska. She supports the aerial hunting of wolves and wants the polar bear taken off the endangered species list since they’re getting in the way of more oil drilling.

She has no compassion for those creatures that share the earth with us and won’t get my vote!

  11. Soooo… let’s get it straight… you are the mother of a 17/16-year-old girl. The girl gets herself banged up in a premarital, casual sex tryst that would have been defined as statutory rape in 14 states and, somehow, this doesn’t make you look like a bad mother? How does that work again???

BTW, I don’t give a rat’s ass about the moral or religious aspects of this situation other than to say ANY teenage pregnancy indicates bad parenting. I don’t care about the redemptive nature of coming to terms with one’s moral fragility… if your teenage daughter gets pregnant, you are a BAD parent. Period. Doesn’t matter if you’re a welfare mom, a crackhead or the governor of Alaska.

  12. No one can be as great as you FW.

  13. Why thank you. I am pretty great ain’t I?

Sad though that you seem to think a mother keeping her teenage daughter’s panties on long enough to graduate high school without a baby is some kind of Herculean task. I believe millions of parents all over the world manage to do this without too much trouble.

  14. Wow there’s some sidetracking going on around here. I thought the post was about why Americans should love and support Sarah Palin. Anyway, she leads with dignity and character, doesn’t claim to be perfect (knows that Conservatives/Christians/right wings, whatever you want to call it, are far from perfect). She is real and is one worth following. Regardless if people don’t enjoy her right now, she’s making her entrance.

  15. Then there are no good parents left in the United States there Fred. When 80% of kids lose their virginity before the age of 18 and teen pregnancy is at it’s highest rate ever as it is commonly accepted in todays society as the norm, unless of course it’s the focus point of an election. Such convienient hypocrisy is mind numbing, I don’t care who you are.

Traveling down that road of ethics certainly is funny coming from liberal america.

  16. I too find it interesting to see libs dipping their toe tepidly into the pool of morality. Could it be they are begining to realize that America is tired of their rediculous rants? Mostly, I want to give two thumbs up to R.C., thats the best post I’ve seen in a long time, possibly ever. I see no further posts from lisallee, I would gather you initiated some thought. I conservative is born! Obviously Fried Wire skipped to the bottom of your post, no doubt unable to remain focused for that long.

  17. This is just crazy how nasty some people can be!
“if your teenage daughter gets pregnant, you are a BAD parent. Period.” You have got to be kidding! How many children do you have Fried Wire? I’ll bet none! So if a teen makes a mistake they must have “bad” parents. That is so ridiculous. What if you teen recks your car, trys smoking, trys drinking alcohol, skips school, uses swear words, doesn’t make it home on time…. Teens make mistakes, as do we all, and it does not mean that they are the victim of bad parenting. I know that my parents had the highest of expectations for me, and I was not shown that drinking, smoking, or having pre-marital sex etc. was okay, quite the opposite! I always wanted to make my parents proud, and I always knew what was right, and had good moral values, but I was by no means perfect. I did not get pregnant at 17, but my bestfriend did, and her parents were much like mine. I made mistakes, and I had to face the consequences, just as Bristol is doing now. Bristol, and many teens to come will make mistakes, and it does not automaticly mean that their parents are bad. Sure there are bad parents out there, and anyone with a little common sense will be able to tell which teens have bad parents; examples and explanations given beautifuly by R.C.

  18. Liselle, or whatever your name is-how is her daughter a poster child for teenage pregnancy? Her daughter has her own choices right? What is she supposed to do, throw her out and disown her for having a child? How difficult it will be for her as a young mother Governor Palin has already expressed. I think it’s noble to stick by your children in tough times. Guess what-almost every family has hard times. You don’t walk away from them. You help them. That’s what family is all about. Why the hell are we still talking about her daughter. I love how the liberals throw all this stuff out… if the tables were turned etc. Please. For starters, who’s to know, and secondly, who cares because the tables are NOT turned. And who really takes Dr Laura seriously… I mean come on. The lady has no heart, and is so condescending to all of her callers. So when she criticizes Palin, no one really listens. I mean really, her husband probably tunes out her over the line, feminist, hard core opinions all day.
I think Sarah Palin is a strong, confident woman who has her own opinions and is open to others. She has real experience (hello Obama!)to help get this country out of debt and out of the greedy hands of oil owners in the Middle East. To me- it really is a no-brainer. America is in billions of dollars of debt. Obama wants to spend!! Oh yes, let’s just GIVE everybody everything, wothout having to work for it. Let’s tax more, and give them all free healthcare, and let the bum mooching on Medicare crack another beer.
And when it comes to Abortion and pro life-I know plenty of Mothers aching for a child, and yet women who want an abortion think only about their pain. We dont let other people get away with taking a life, but give mothers the “option” to discontinue life.
I just dont get how people think sometimes. Why in the world would you want Obama in office? Yes we want change, but for the better right? He doesn’t know what he’s doing!! He would change Washington all right. He would change everything our forefathers wanted for our country. He is a great man personally, and can certainly speak in public. But politically, we would be NUTS to elect him!!
I think Palin and Mccain will take us to where I think this country should go. I am so excited to see them take it.

  19. Whoa-just read Fried Wires comment. Makes you a bad parent, period? Please-are you a parent? My hell are you out of touch. She’s 17!! Do you remember being seventeen!! My mom was an AMAZING mother and I still went behind her back and did whatever I wanted. Please. There are so many parents struggling with rebelious teens, and rebelious in a whole lot of ways. And why wouldn’t they rebel? We legalize gay marriage, we swear and take the Lords name on tv, pornography is rampant and destroys families, and amke it all look glamorous on tv and in movies. Then you have a parent at home trying to raise their kid right, and they choose another path than what the parent had planned. How does that make you a bad parent? It’s not a dictatorship!! You cant throw her in jail or not give her food for it. Govenor Palin is standing by her daughter in a tough time. Of course she didn’t want it. Doesn’t make her a bad parent. It would be like her being in office and you still making dumb comments. Doesn’t make her a bad vice-president. It makes you dumb.

  20. Right on Liza, Right on!

  21. Liza,

I am a parent. And, like any parent who prides themselves on not being totally shit at the job, I’ll tell you that the key to keeping your kid off drugs/out of jail/not pregnant is to pay attention, make time to mentor them and remind them that they are more important to you than your job. Palin clearly wasn’t doing any of this otherwise her daughter wouldn’t have been dropping her panties and rebelling against mommy. How is there even an argument about this?

Conservatives (see Bill O’Reilly ranting about Britney Spears’ sister, etc.) have always pontificated about teenage pregnancy and blamed parents for not caring enough. And I’d agree. But now, because we’re talking about the GOP ‘Great White Hope’, it’s somehow a good thing to have your teenage daughter knocked up??? I understand partisan thinking, but that’s just bullshit and you people should be ashamed at the level of hypocrisy you’re stooping to.

  22. Right on RC on Sept 1!

Totally agree…. I was 22 unwed and now have a beautiful red-headed artist for a daughter who is happily married! I took the responsibity for my “actions” unlike my friends who were onto their 2nd or 3rd abortion. I am totally redeemed & walk in FREEDOM & PEACE over it! Giving life is always the noble thing to do… I was adopted too, so I know both ends!
    Blessings upon all!

  23. I love Sarah Palin & I’m Canadian & definitely NOT a republican! Time for the daughters of EVE to arise! FINALLY!

  24. Fried Wire…I’m sure your a fine mentor to your children with all the expletives pouring out. You didn’t mention how old your child is. I’ll wager not 17. You sound like your 17. It’s not about double standards. It’s about compassion. Liberals like to use the word but can’t understand how to implement it. I really think you should read all the way through R.C.’s post. Take a break in the middle if you need to.

  25. Thanks T.A. for the ridiculous assumptions. Yes, of course, I use exactly the same vocabulary when talking to my kids because everyone does that, right? And that’s not at all an intellectually dishonest or childish assertion to make, right? As for ‘liberals’ and ‘compassion’, I realize baseless generalizations are the keystone of your herd-mentality “philosophy”, but it’s really a bit sad that a grown adult with at least average cognitive skills would sell themselves so short.

  26. Did you get this email?

    ________

Our nation’s founders believed that the right to bear arms was essential -

to insure common citizens could protect themselves from a tyrannical government.

And that was a good idea.

    Back in 1776…

Now every four years the GOP tells they support the 2nd amendment.

    They throw us a bone.

But what good is a gun when they are listening in on our phone calls?

When they know what we say?

    What we read?

    Who we talk to?

Where we go on the internet?

When the tax breaks just go to CEOs and the working folks lose their pensions?

When they drown our country in debt?

When the war is paid for with a credit card?

When we’re losing our homes because bankers played fast and loose?

When they can imprison us without trial?

When we are guilty until proven innocent?

What good is a gun when the intruder doesn’t come in through the window,

but through our phone lines and internet connections?

They don’t care if we have a gun.

    Because it isn’t 1776 anymore.

We need to elect people that protect ALL of our rights

    NOT just the 2nd amendment.

Tell the GOP we’re not stupid.

We don’t want to be thrown a bone.

    We want the whole steak.

  27. I hope you all got a chance to see the interview that Sean Hanity had with Sarah Palin. He asked her a wide range of questions from her what her role will be as McCain’s VP to the attacks on her personally. Sarah answered every question without hesitation. She was did not whine or make excuses, she just answered the questions honestly. After watching the interview, I can not imagine how anyone could dislike her. I think the thing I admire the most about Sarah Palin is her commitment to what she believes in. She sticks to what she believes in, and is not trying to bend her convictions for anyone. Although I agree with everything I have heard from her so far, I am sure that at some point there will be something that I see differently, and that’s fine.

As for you Fried Wire; what makes you think that Sarah Palin’s daughter was rebelling against her mom? Just because she got pregnant. I would venture to guess that it had more to do with how she felt about the boy, and with all the emotions and hormones, she was not thinking about the values instilled by her parents. Her daughter made a MISTAKE and she is now having to face the consequences, it does not mean her mother or father are bad parents! Like I said in a previous post, I did not get pregnant before marriage, but I was not perfect, I made mistakes, and my parents were phenomenal parents! My best friend did get pregnant at 17, and her mom did not work, was home with him, and very involved in her life. At some point her parents had to let her do something, go to dances, movies etc. Well, my friend met this nice guy, that she “was in love with” and well they had sex, and she got pregnant. She took responsibility, and got married, and had the baby. I recall being angry with her, because I no longer had my pal to hang out with. I never felt like she had bad parents, I just felt like my friend did a stupid thing. It is not exactly the start her parents wanted for her, but she made a mistake, and the right thing for her parents to do, was support her, which they did.

  28. WRA, I would think (forgive me the outrageous presumption of doing so) that it’s very likely Palin’s daughter was rebelling against her mother. She could not be unaware of her mother’s very public religious and political opinions so, unless she was slipped a rufy, was aware of them at the time she decided to have sex with that dude. And, if aware of her mother’s opinions and the potential her actions could have to damage her mother’s credibility, there are only two reasons she would have bumped premarital uglies:

    1. She is stupid (but she seemed like a reasonably intelligent kid from what I’ve heard)

    2. She resented being ignored by her busy mother and wished, consciously or not, to rebel against her and her ‘values’.

As a wider issue, doesn’t it even strike you as odd that teen pregnancies, divorces and rapes are through the roof in states (such as Alaska, US #1 rape state) where abstinence only sex education and James Dobson’s ideas of ‘family values’ are the norm? Before assuming you have enough of a handle on ‘liberal’ values to attack them, why not examine your own ‘conservative’ ideas, how they might be improved and how they might be taken out of the realms of socially divisive political dogma and be made to work more effectively in the real world.

Then again, this would require the use of analytical and critical thought – areas most ‘conservatives’ feel very uncomfortable about as you seem to prefer passively internalizing the projected values and concerns of those at the top of the socio-economic ladder instead.

I’ll look forward to another ‘nyerr nyerr’ party-orthodox response from you which will probably just vindicate my comment.

  29. fried wire, Rediculous assumptions like maybe (“Sad though that you seem to think a mother keeping her teenage daughter’s panties on long enough to graduate high school without a baby is some kind of Herculean task”) Baseless generalizations like (“ANY teenage pregnancy indicates bad parenting”) Like ALL liberals, (there I go again) you get emotional when your own tactics are turned against you yet somehow are able to see how sad those tactics are in the first place. I think it’s time YOU took a look at YOURSELF. This is now your cue to pull out your dictionary and try to tap dance around the issue until everyone has forgotten what we were talking about. Obama has taught you well.

  30. T.A., are you on the pipe? Or are you just another conservative cliché who talks the big talk, slanders and belittles everyone else mercilessly, then whines like a baby if anyone contradicts you or your cherished prejudices? McCain has taught you well.

(Oh, and sorry to make you reach for the dictionary with all them pesky words an’ stuff.)

  31. lame wire….you are a waste of my time

  32. Um, I think you mean she _complimented_ his campaign (in #2). It’s a bit hard to take the rest of the post seriously with that kind of mistake in it.

  33. 12. She thinks the world is 6,000 years old
    13. She thinks the War in Iraq is a mission from God
    14. She charges rape victims for their SA kits
    15. She believes in ‘praying away the gay.’

    Blind.

  34. Oh my gosh, I just found the greatest Sarah Palin t-shirt! http://cgi.ebay.com/Sarah-Palin-Wonder-Woman-T-Shirt-McCain-Republican-nice_W0QQitemZ110293172826QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item110293172826&_trkparms=72%3A1208%7C39%3A1%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C240%3A1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14
