Matt Maher – I’m Alive Again – Lyrics and Video
August 8, 2009
Here are the lyrics as I hear them:
I woke up in darkness
surrounded by silence
oh where, where have I gone?
I woke to reality
losing its grip on me
oh where, where have I gone?
Cause I can see the light
before I see the sunrise
You called and you shouted
broke through my deafness
now I’m breathing in
and breathing out
I’m alive again!
You shattered my darkness
washed away my blindness
now I’m breathing in
and breathing out
I’m alive again!
Late have I loved you,
you waited for me,
I searched for you…
what took me so long?
I was looking outside
as if love would ever want to hide
I’m finding I was wrong
Cause I can feel the wind
before it hits my skin
You called and you shouted
broke through my deafness
now I’m breathing in
and breathing out
I’m alive again!
You shattered my darkness
washed away my blindness
now I’m breathing in
and breathing out
I’m alive again!
I’m alive again!
Cause I want you!
Yes, I want you,
I need you
And I’ll do what ever I have to
Just to get through
cause I love you
Yeah, I love you!
You called and you shouted
broke through my deafness
now I’m breathing in
and breathing out
I’m alive again!
You shattered my darkness
washed away my blindness
now I’m breathing in
and breathing out
I’m alive again!

Jeff,
Thanks for the lyrics of Matt Maher’s Alive Again! I heard for the first time on KLOVE a couple days ago. Been a fan of Matt’s music for many years. Looking forward to the release of the whole cd.
Blessings,
Larry
the lyric is actually “Late have I Love You” not “they never.”
it is actually the name of a poem by st. Augustine about coming to love God late in life
Also…the lyric is “surrounded by silence”, not “sounded by silence” in the first paragraph.
Love this song!!
Thanks for the fixes guys!
Another minor fix:
I was looking outside
> as **if** love would ever want to hide
I’m finding I was wrong
Other than that nit it looks good. I’d say you have the lyrics very nicely worked out. Many thanks.
I love this song, there’s just something about it that makes me feel God near me… Thank You Matt Maher
This song calls to me from being riveted & shot down…to being resurrected: “I’m alive again”…..
finally after years of waiting…
God is confirming His work in me via this song and other words of encouragement…
blessings everyone!
Sorry about all the lyric changes man but after listening to certain parts over and cover again, wiht the volume turned up I’m pretty sure that in the Chorus, it’s “rose through my deafness” instead of “broke through my deafness
Bob,
Actually, I think you’re right. I’ve always thought it was “broke through” but Matt definately has a “s” in there and I don’t hear the gutteral “B” at all. Nice catch. I wish I had my CD sleeve here to look there.
James
awsome awsome song! perfectly written, wow, i just herd it today and i started to cry its very deep. jaja god bless all
(i know this has nothing to do with the lyrics but i just wanted to tell someone)
Awesome song. I’m pretty sure it’s “broke.” He does throw in an “s” sound but I think that’s the way he transitions into the voiceless “th” sound. The reason you don’t hear the “b” (which is a bilabial, meaning it’s formed by putting your lips together) is because he doesn’t completely close his mouth, particularly in the first verse. In fact, he doesn’t make a “b” sound for “before” either, but since we know that word, we sort of assume it’s there.
Plus, if you look at the second part of the chorus, he uses the phrase “shattered my darkness.” So I definitely think it’s “broke.” That’s my take, anyway.
Yeah, I hear broke too. I change the “if” lyric. This is the number one result when you search for the lyrics to the song! So thanks everyone for making sure they were correct!
Saw Matt in concert last night in San Antonio on the A New Hallelujah Tour. His songs are what I call God Songs. I was especially moved by Remembrance (Communion Song) and Christ is risen. Oh, yeah, did I mention Alive Again. Great concert, great CD. Thanks, Matt
Wow, powerful song! The words to this song probably describe most of us. What took us so long to come back to the Cross? Thank you Jesus for your never ending love and patience.
